Mom's Medicine Cabinet Checklist
Hello Beauties!
While cleaning my cabinets today, I figured all the essential items for infants and toddlers which I always have handy for my little ones. So I thought of listing them down to remind myself and also help out the poor moms who panic in emergency situations when their kiddo completely loses it in discomfort or pain. These products are saviors, I tell you!
1) Panadol Infant Drops
These drops are a necessity. It works as a pain reliever and controls fever for a baby suffering from low grade temperature. There are times when during the day or night you suddenly feel your baby is warm and dull, these drops can be instantly given to control the temperature. Of course, a doctor needs to be consulted if the symptoms are severe but for an immediate first dose, they are the best. Secondly, they are extremely useful when you have just got your baby vaccinated, as it controls mild fever and relieves the pain.
The number of dosage is clearly mentioned on the bottle and box and should be strictly followed as described according to the age of the child.
2) Digas Drops
These are herbal drops (not medicated) which help in relieving gas pains and colic usually in infants under a year. A lot of babies suffer from colic issues and have a daily routine for hours of a full-out-cry due to this problem. I know how terrible and helpless moms feel when the baby inconsolably cries and you see yourself as a failure. Hopefully, these drops will work for you and make your LO feel better.
3) Sudocrem
You never know when you open the diaper for changing and discover rashes on your baby's lower area. Sudocrem is the solution to all rashes whether they are mild or deep. It's been 2.5 years with my 3 kids and this creme has always surprised me with the instant results. Apart from nappy rashes, it can be used by adults for various purposes as mentioned on the packing. You definitely want this on your shelf all the time.
4) Gripe Water
It is easily available over the counter product which is probably the oldest formulation by the herbalists of the sub-continent. It is meant to settle the stomach or relax cramping muscles. It keeps the stomach clear if given on a regular basis and prevents the baby from having indigestion or occassional stomach upset. It includes herbs and has a very pleasant sweet taste, loved by all babies. I still have a spoon or two after giving it to the kids, LOL.
5) Nasal Drops
No worries if your baby wakes up in the middle of the night with a blocked nose, these saline drops are an effective way to alleviate congestion and remove the mucus. Just a few drops in the nostrils and you'll see the amazing results when you're able to make your baby go back to sleep. Do get the one with a dropper packing as it is convenient to put in the nostrils but be prepared for an awful wrestle with your baby.
6) Baby Chest Rub
Another blessing for a flu ridden baby. Just apply a small amount of rub on the chest, back, under the feet. It is helpful to relief congestion and open the blocked nose. It is very useful when applied at night to ensure that baby gets a sound sleep. I suggest not to put it on the nostrils, to be on the safer side, you never know the reaction.
7) Coferb
Coferb contains Ivy leaf extract that relieves cough and congestion and soothes throat. It liquefies mucus and makes it easy to expel out and makes breathing easy. It is available over the counter and kids loves the sweet taste. Do read about the dosage before squirting the syrup down the throat.
Do let me know, what items do you particularly find helpful to have on hand for your baby?
